Paula Cademartori
During the 2015 edition of Milan Design Week, Paula Cademartori unveiled her first footwear collection at 10 Corso Como in Milan, the iconic concept store where her handbag lines had been showcased since 2011. To mark the launch, she collaborated with Atelier Biagetti on a site-specific installation entitled PAULA, transforming the presentation into an immersive dialogue between fashion, design, and contemporary art.
Founded by architect and designer Alberto Biagetti and artist Laura Baldassari, the atelier, whose collaborators have included Louis Vuitton, Venini, Adidas, and Memphis Milano, among others, is renowned for its provocative and highly imaginative approach, blurring the boundaries between design, art, and performance. Their work explores contemporary desires, habits, and obsessions, transforming everyday objects into unexpected narrative devices that challenge conventional perceptions and invite new forms of interaction.
“This remarkable collaboration with Atelier Biagetti reflected the harmony between design, style, and contemporary expression that resonates most with my creative vision. Through its strong material presence and bold chromatic language, the installation enhanced the artistic dimension of the project while serving as an elegant stage for the Lotus sandal, celebrating the intricate dialogue of cut-outs, geometric lines, and petal-like forms that compose it.”
Conceived around the symbolic number five, PAULA celebrated both the designer's identity and the five styles that comprised the debut “Lotus” shoe collection. Five sculptural plinths, each featuring a pentagonal structure inspired by the five letters of Paula's name, displayed the footwear designs. Illuminated by vibrant linear LED lights spelling out P-A-U-L-A in bold capitals, the installation combined marble, copper, and refined handcrafted details to create a striking visual experience.
The result was a theatrical environment in which objects became protagonists, reflecting the shared creative language of Paula Cademartori and Atelier Biagetti: bold yet sophisticated, playful yet meticulously crafted. Through light, materiality, and geometry, the installation translated Paula's distinctive aesthetic into spatial form, extending her universe beyond fashion accessories and into the realm of experiential design.
